Ballroom/Dance Sport for Sake of It

“Ballroom Dancing” is often associated to classic social dances, while “Dance Sport” often thought to be only for professionals. Well, a lot of people around the world dance for leisure and a lot of people around the world simply dance whenever, whereever.

I blog about Ballroom/Dancesports because I am MOVED (internally as much as I am externally) by it. Compared to a social circus of crowded dancefloors where you can do nothing but grind around and be taken advantage of, Ballroom Dancing is way superior in pros and the only con is probably the cost to some. In ballroom dancing I’ve found a marriage of science and art that one can be part of and simply delight in – Ballroom dancing. Whether you are a dancer or spectator, you can’t help but marvel at the executions and even the diversity of rich music that comes with the package.

An Overview on Ballroom Dancing (from wikipedia.org):

Ballroom dance refers to a set of partner dances, which are enjoyed both socially and competitively around the world. Its performance and entertainment aspects are also widely enjoyed on stage, in film, and on television.

Ballroom dance may refer, at its widest, to almost any type of social dancing as recreation. However, with the emergence of dancesport in modern times, the term has become narrower in scope. It usually refers to the International Standard and International Latin style dances…

Learning Ballroom Dancing:

Dancing is my mom’s passion. She danced socially and for leisure. One time, she got me to try it out with her and I fell in love with it ever since. We would hire dance instructors to teach us on the spot and that’s how it’s really done if you want quick results. The first time I’ve  learned to really do this is through Garry (Surname to be updated) and when I was lucky enough to have champion Ronnie Steve Vergara for an instructor, whose partner, Charlea Lagaras, is my current favorite Filipina dancer and also my inspiration in dancing. Ronnie said she also started out dancing for leisure and ended up as a pro. I’ve also had proper lessons from Paul (also forgot surname sorry) and am currently furnishing with the teachings of Rex Mendel Manite.

Here’s a wonderful video of Ronnie and Chanda doing Pasodoble:

And here’s a video of my ultimate favorite tandem Stefano Di Filippo & Anna Melnikova doing the same dance:

Let’s Uzzap about Sports

I am posting this as a bridge to my past and present entries.

So yes, Boston became NBA Champs as Predicted and my Paul Pierce became MVP as expected except that the Celtics actually made garbage time on the Lakers and made Special Attendance at the Pacman-Diaz Match last week wherein Pacman practically killed his opponent early in round 2 and finished though in the 8th.

Aside from that, UEFA EURO 2008 finals champion Spain finally does it after 24 years, now on the account of loser Germany who had an early land on the top. 1-nil just proves a tough match though, similar to this 5-set heart-pounding victory by new king Rafael Nadal over the 5-time-reigning ex-champ Roger Federer in this years Wimbledon Men’s Final

In local Sports, well, NCAA kicks off. 😀

Swampers in the Staples!

Whatever that means, you know what I mean. 😀 *as korny as the fight they put up*

NBA FINALS Game 3(LAL) and 4(BOS)

There’s no place like home court… NOT TO LA!

LOS ANGELES – Boston Celtics came from behind on a House jump shot, 4:07 in the last canto, assisted by Pierce and steals the lead which the Lakers have kept for more than 3 1/2 quarters of the game, and went on to win back home court advantage and stand 3-1 in NBA Finals, 97-91.

No more time to post! 😀

BOS vs LAL : Game 2

There’s no place like home court.

BOSTON – Even hungover with his injury from the previous match, Paul Pierce piled 28 points with 4/4 3-pt field goals and 8 assists to lead Boston in Game 2 as they leave LA still without victory in the Best of 7 NBA Finals, 108-102.

The Lakers will have the home court advantage for the next 3 games, but it takes 1 win for the Celtics to steal that advantage. So I maintain, Celtics in 7. 😀

When 2 of your all-time favorites face each other in NBA Finals…….

You go for the one who hasn’t been champion for the longer time!

It was the end of the line for Los Angeles Lakers as Celtic pride Paul Pierce took it from beyond the arc off a Rajon Rondo cook up, 1:26 left in the 3rd quarter, 72-71, for the last lead change of Game 1 NBA Finals wherein Kevin Garnett top scored with a double-double 24 baskets and 13 rebounds to highlight Boston’s 98-88 victory.

Anyway, going back to the topic…. Yeah, I love them both and I both wear Pierce and Bryant jerseys proudly but It would be awfully boring if LA bags this crown. I feel bad that this is probably my favorite team match just when I do not have time to actually be Sports-literate as before. 😦

I also did not accept invitations to fantasy leagues but here’s my target team for that game anyway:

C – P. Gasol (24.07 eff)

PG – R. Allen (12.7 eff)

SG – K. Bryant (29.73 eff)

SF – P. Pierce (17.35 eff)

PF – KG!!!! I mean K. Garnet (25.9 eff)

That’s 109.75, fair enough, right? hehehe
