Ballroom/Dance Sport for Sake of It
“Ballroom Dancing” is often associated to classic social dances, while “Dance Sport” often thought to be only for professionals. Well, a lot of people around the world dance for leisure and a lot of people around the world simply dance whenever, whereever.
I blog about Ballroom/Dancesports because I am MOVED (internally as much as I am externally) by it. Compared to a social circus of crowded dancefloors where you can do nothing but grind around and be taken advantage of, Ballroom Dancing is way superior in pros and the only con is probably the cost to some. In ballroom dancing I’ve found a marriage of science and art that one can be part of and simply delight in – Ballroom dancing. Whether you are a dancer or spectator, you can’t help but marvel at the executions and even the diversity of rich music that comes with the package.
An Overview on Ballroom Dancing (from wikipedia.org):
Ballroom dance refers to a set of partner dances, which are enjoyed both socially and competitively around the world. Its performance and entertainment aspects are also widely enjoyed on stage, in film, and on television.
Ballroom dance may refer, at its widest, to almost any type of social dancing as recreation. However, with the emergence of dancesport in modern times, the term has become narrower in scope. It usually refers to the International Standard and International Latin style dances…
Learning Ballroom Dancing:
Dancing is my mom’s passion. She danced socially and for leisure. One time, she got me to try it out with her and I fell in love with it ever since. We would hire dance instructors to teach us on the spot and that’s how it’s really done if you want quick results. The first time I’ve learned to really do this is through Garry (Surname to be updated) and when I was lucky enough to have champion Ronnie Steve Vergara for an instructor, whose partner, Charlea Lagaras, is my current favorite Filipina dancer and also my inspiration in dancing. Ronnie said she also started out dancing for leisure and ended up as a pro. I’ve also had proper lessons from Paul (also forgot surname sorry) and am currently furnishing with the teachings of Rex Mendel Manite.
Here’s a wonderful video of Ronnie and Chanda doing Pasodoble:
And here’s a video of my ultimate favorite tandem Stefano Di Filippo & Anna Melnikova doing the same dance:
